This weekend, the AZ State Champs race was hosted by our friends over at Hobby Action RC Raceway. With 169 entries, including a full Vintage and Mini class, it was an awesome time!
As per usual with our weekly club racing, the top 3 finishers in our Mini 1/14 class were running LC Racing EMB-1 buggies, followed by the EMB-TG truggies, short course, and an Arrma Mojave Grom.
There's no denying the nimbleness of the EMB-1 and its current superiority on this track, but we'll see how things evolve over time. We've sold a bunch of truggies to local racers who have yet to showcase their full potential (except Shawn Horton, who, in our club racing, has laid down impressive times as well as backflipping over our big triple).
Our rental fleet was out in full force, including a truggy, two EMB-1 buggies, and a short course. We offer these vehicles ready-to-run, including transponders, to let fellow racers try out the LC Racing lineup and get their feet wet on the mini action. It's a key element to our success in growing the class at Hobby Action, and we carry all spare parts for any mishaps and maintain them throughout the day.
Of course, this race weekend had a few casualties, including my own buggy during Q3, resulting in needing to switch wheels/tires for the main to a completely different type than what I had been practicing with. Although the driving characteristics were drastically different, and I made a few mistakes, I still managed to nab third.
Tip: Don't use the $10 set of touring car wheels/tires from Amazon, although they worked pretty darn well while they lasted. 😅
Rental buggy down. Aluminum hubs and steering blocks are our most recommended upgrade. This one was fresh out of the box for the event, so we hadn't upgraded it yet.
Don't over-tighten your wheel nuts, or excessive stress will be applied, stretching the axle shaft and focusing on the weakest narrow portion - the area that the wheel hex pin slides through. The latest iteration of serrated wheel nuts have plenty of holding power without needing to crank things down like the Hulk. This truggy's axles broke twice during the race day.
All in all, another fantastic weekend of racing with great folks. Every Saturday, this class expands with more and more racers getting the itch after seeing us throw these little micro machines around the track.
